STAY WITH YOU - LEMON JELLY

English electronica duo Lemon Jelly specialise in cool trippy tunes that use samples, in this case, Gallagher and Lyle’s “I Wanna Stay With You”.

THE BRAZILIAN HIPSTER - FORT KNOX FIVE

An instant hit when it was released 16 years ago, this great track has still got a party in every part of it.

BROTHERS AND SISTERS - BONGMASTER INC

This cruisy slice of summer is the solo work of Dallas Tamaira from Fat Freddy’s Drop. Taken from the 2006 album “Happy Cones”.

BOOGIE NO MORE - MADRID DE LOS AUSTRIAS

Originally released by A Taste of Honey in ’78 as Boogie Oogie Oogie, this is a nice remix by Austrian Producers, Madrid de los Austrias and Richard Dorfmeister.

LOVEFOOL - THE CARDIGANS

Swedish band The Cardigans (great name!) hit gold with this cute paean to love, and its inclusion in the movie, “Romeo and Juliet” made sure it stayed in the charts.

MY FRIEND - GROOVE ARMADA

Englishmen Groove Armada are very clever and classy producers and this track features the sultry vocals of Celetia Martin and a funky sample from The Fatback Band.

NOW THAT WE’VE FOUND LOVE

This was written by soul legends Gamble and Huff back in 1973 and was a hit for Heavy D but Third World’s version is my favourite.

WHY DON’T YOU - CLEO SOL

London songstress Cleo delivers a dreamy, enchanting piece of neo-soul with suitably modern lyrics.  Watch out for this young woman.

MIRROR MARU

A beautiful and quirky track from Norwegian musician, Cashmere Cat, aka Magnus Hoiberg, who incidentally represented his country in the World DJ Championships.

GOT TO GIVE IT UP (PART 1)

This was Marvin’s first foray into disco (1976) and whammo, it went to Number 1. I’ve always liked the party chatter at the intro and Marvin’s cool falsetto vocal.

DRIVERS SEAT - SNIFF’N’THE TEARS

Got to have a one-hit-wonder in here and this British band had a dreadful name but a good song with a ‘driving beat’ and catchy backing vocals. 1978.

RIO - NETSKY

Belgian producer Netsky took his stage name from a computer virus. This track which he labels as liquid funk, is an energy filled horn-driven number about being in the moment.

LORD ECHO - WANG EAST

Lord Echo, aka Mike Fabulous, was a guitarist with The Black Seeds and he likes to create afro-disco-rocksteady-club music. Whatever he terms it, I love it.
