Megane Overview
With Mégane II, Renault adds a new string to its bow: the individual car. It can be summed up in three words: compact, expressive, dynamic.
The Mégane II sets new standards for the compact car segment that the competition struggle to meet. It arrives with the dual accolades of European Car of the Year and the only 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating in its class.
Standard on all versions are at least 6 airbags - driver and passenger front airbags, front side airbags and full length curtain airbags), ABS Brakes with Brake Assist, automatic headlights, automatic windscreen wipers, automatic dipping rear view mirror, air conditioning and a CD player.
Mégane II is available as a 5-door Hatchback, a 4-door Sedan or a Coupe-Cabriolet, each with the highest level of safety equipment ever seen as standard in this market sector. Universally acclaimed for its cutting edge styling and 'touch design' interior, the Mégane II reset the standard for the rest to follow.
Design
Mégane II lends its powerful, expressive design to a Coupe-Cabriolet, a 4-door Sedan and a 5-door hatchback, which all share the same assertive character. Mégane II stands out as a distinctive product in a segment of mainly look-alike cars.
It appeals to the emotions without sacrificing functionality and practicality. It is an energetic car that makes no secret of its sporty personality, particularly in terms of the cockpit, while actively promoting driving pleasure. Its robust design is rounded out by an attention to detail that is evident in the trim quality, fit and finish and flush body panels.
The interior is a lesson in modernity, sobriety and ergonomics. It is the first volume-produced car to feature Touch Design, an illustration of the care and attention that went into its design.
Engines and transmissions
The engine range for the Hatch comprises three units: 115bhp/83 Kw 1.6 16V, 136bhp/98 Kw 2.0 16V and the 225bhp/165kW RenaultSport high performance engine . These engines are equipped with 16 valves and variable inlet valve timing (VVT) for the benefit of ease of driving and a reduction in fuel consumption. The Sedan and Coupe-Cabriolet are available with the 2.0 16V engine.
The 2.0 litre engine is mated to either a 4-speed automatic with sequential gear change, or the 6-speed close ratio manual of the RS 225.
The 1.6 version is available with a 5-speed manual.
Safety
The Mégane II 5-star EURO NCAP score has confirmed Renault's supremacy in safety. With this score Mégane II is the first C-segment vehicle to achieve such a high level of leading-edge performance, making it the safest car The reinforced structure of Mégane II, coupled with energy absorption and programmed crumple zones, guarantee optimum deformation in impacts. Mégane II offers a host of occupant-protection features with the third-generation Renault System for Restraint and Protection, designed to offer maximum protection to all occupants equally.
To cap it off, the electronic stability programme (ESP) is now standard on all Phase II models.
